Honda CTX Automatic
The Honda CTX
"The Bike of the Future!"
Come on admit it; you've always knew someone could have the talent and imagination to make an automatic motorcycle. Born without a clutch lever the Honda CTX700D and other CTX models are all a taste of the 'good life'. One ride and you will know the future in motorcycles is already here. Each model comes with ABS, a low seat height that will allow any able minded person to straddle and ride her in under 10 minutes. "Just twist and go!" The smooth transmission feels as if there is a little man inside switching gears for you. Even when slowing to a stop the transmission works with you to help slow the bike down. The forward positioning of the engine allows for quick starts and stops as well as handling impressively from left to right. The ride is simple, just sit back and use just one hand. Each model weighs in at about 500 lbs. You may have to hide this bike from your mother. It's that easy to ride. Even the well experienced biker will get maximum enjoyment from riding the CTX. Comfort, Technology, eXperience is what Honda has put into the Soul of the new CTX.
The CTX700D is the one to get. You wouldn't buy a smart phone and not get all the bells and whistles. Honda's New Second-Generation Automatic Dual Clutch Transmission is a new rider’s best friend and the experienced rider's new mistress. The CTX had no problem adapting the many different riding styles I tried while on the Press Ride. The bike is tantamount in traffic and built for short touring. “Don't get it twisted, CTX is not a scooter.” The bike comes equipped with two modes, sport and touring. I attacked the freeway entrance while in sport mode and she put me out in front of the pack right where I wanted to be. Sport mode allows the bike to stay in 3rd gear a little longer in order to use more of the 670cc engine’s power. When you hit the throttle ‘The Tiger’ in the bike comes out and the exhaust growls differently. In Sport mode the bike seems to responds quicker to your commands. Touring mode allows the bike to work so efficiently that you can get in excess of 68 MPG.
One of the most impressive things about the CTX automatic is the two pedal shifters on the left handlebar. All you need is your index finger and thumb to access any gear. If you downshift twice to pass a slow truck, just let the bike do the rest. The transmission will return back to 4th and 5th gear on its own. The “tranny” switches gears just at the right time to get the maximum MPG. Honda reports the CTX700 can get around 64/61 MPG. But I hear you can get much more. My favorite model runs about $8,799 and the others are about $1,000 - $2,000 less expensive.
The hardest thing for me as an experienced rider on the CTX was to learn how to relax. You don’t have to get ready to switch gears. Plus you get the real motorcycle feel that you desire. It’s also possible to switch off the automatic transmission mode and handle the bike manually with the greatest of ease with just two fingers. Now, rethink sitting in traffic on the new CTX.
The CTX was the easiest motorcycle I have ever ridden and had the opportunity to put it to the test all in one day. We took all the CTX models on some of my favorite Malibu Highways and Mulholland Drive’s "twistys". Everything about the bike’s design, seat position, handle bars, comfy seat, automatic transmission and ABS allows you to sit back, relax and just ride. After a full day of riding the Malibu coast and mountains I was still ready to ride the CTX into the sunset. If you are a beginner or a novice motorcycle rider you will get full enjoyment out of this bike. Saddlebag options and accessories are available. Some models have windshield and fairing. The CTX colors are candy red, pearl white and black. Visit: www.powersports.honda.com
