2013 Honda F6B Gold Wing
1st Class Comfort Style & Power.
First introduced to the world in 1975,Honda’s legendary Gold Wing has been nicknamed the ‘Cadillac’ of Motorcycles for many years. Most recently, I was presented with another moniker via an admiring on looker I met while riding the California coast; the Honda F6B is like the “Bentley” of Motorcycles. One ride and I’m sure you will feel the F6B brings style, performance and comfort to a whole new level.
If you tried the rest; now step up to the best. Honda removed the rear trunk of the F6B, dropped a few pounds in the lab and delivered a visually impressive mechanically designed masterpiece. Shaving off those few pounds makes it easy to feel the power of the massive 6-cylinder 1832cc motor. The F6B’s engine is so smooth at times it almost feels like a futuristic electric motorcycle. You may feel the need to look underneath you to see if you’re riding a ‘crotch-rocket’ disguised in this smooth elegant exterior. The power of this driveshaft-driven machine whipped my head back in any gear. The seating is lower than the original Gold Wing and it must contribute to the exceptional handling and agility of the bike. Maybe it’s the 16-inch tire in the rear and the 18-inch tire in the front that makes this bike ‘Rock’. The F6B I had did not have ABS, but I didn’t miss it. I tried to lock up the wheels on my first brake testing of the bike, but I couldn’t. The bike stops with ease. Once you’re confident, you can easily make U-turns, handle “twisties”and maneuver through urban traffic. You will be amazed by the way she handles when you lay into the curves of the canyons. You are so low you wonder why you’re not scraping the pegs. Now imagine your big ‘Kool-Aid’ smile when you see the next caution “twisties” next 5 miles sign.
Speaking of smooth; I rode the F6B to the 21st Annual BET Awards in Los Angeles at the Nokia Center. I received “1st Class” reception everywhere I took the F6B. I had a celebrity like greeting everywhere I went. Anywhere I chose to park the Red and Black Beauty the crowds of onlookers standing in line would part like the Red Sea. I had no problem getting up front parking when I was headed to red carpet reception and festivities. My credentials allowed for up-front access to all the evenings highlights. Seeing Snoop as a dad with his entire family was a highlight for me. He has come a long way and deserves his spot as a legend in Rap history.
This year’s Rare Breed MC Annual Picnic was as usual “off the hook”. It was held at Woodley Park in unbearable 102-degree weather, but true to fashion everything was “turned up”even in that heat. I arrived in style on the F6B luckily on time. The police closed off the entrance to the park because too many people came to party shortly after. Three thousand motorcycle enthusiasts, many on bikes and in cars, came in support of Rare Breed. I commend everyone for being on their best behavior. The RB Moto Club is strictly for Harley owners, however, when I pulled into the procession you could feel them bow down because the respect they had for the ‘Power of the Wings’. I met riders from all over the country who flew in for the picnic. Many of them rode their bikes. It was the first time most of them have seen the F6B in person. The Rare Breed MC Annual Picnic is LA’s largest Motorcycle enthusiasts’ event. The dance that night was packed to the rafters. There were pool parties during the day at the host hotel and parties at other MC clubs at night all weekend long. The “Dirty Birds” really do it big. The best question of the day was when an onlooker at a stop light pulled up in a van and asked me, ‘Is that a Motorcycle?’ (cont.)
